Can anyone tell me how Pepper Popper targets got their name? Just something I've always wondered about.

The story I heard was that they were named after John Pepper, one of the original IPSC shooters; "Pepper" after him, and "Popper", because when you "pop" one of them, it falls over.

OK-I'll buy that. This has been something I've pondered about for a long time. Thank You!

Maybe it's named after Pepper(It is) but really it is because it is a lot more polite and easier to say than:

"^$^*&&*## piece of uncalibrated %^%^ that didn't fall down!"

If you want the @#$%^&* thing calibrated, show up early enough to help set up.

John Pepper, indeed. Paragraph 11:

Jim,
I'm usually the jerk that knocks it down with a factory 9mm load after someone complains to the ROy. Also I usually have the only truck that doesn't involve extreme fear of scratching the pretty bedliner so I haul them around the range too. All fine and good, I just want to kick the guy who made forward falling poppers though.

"I just want to kick the guy who made forward falling poppers though."

At least they don't blow down from the wind once calibrated for 125,000

I made the mistake once of not doing a careful walk through and having to shoot first. Damn stage designer put a forward falling popper in front of 2 smaller poppers. So I hammer the paper and swing on the poppers. I double tap the first popper and send 3 more down to clear the poppers behind it. This usually works real well, except for the forward falling part. Me thinking the popper is not calbrated and I'm shooting fairly hot loads starts sending even more lead downrange to push it over.

I run the mag half dry and turn to compain to the RO when the damn popper falls over to the RO's delight.

Navy joe Jim,

"I just want to kick the guy who made forward falling poppers though."

That was John Forward, no relation to John Pepper :what:

After having shot pretty much nothing other than forward falling poppers for a few years, I will take them anyday over rearward falling poppers.

Around here the wind makes major and having to reset poppers and then having lots of re-shoots really sucked. So my club spent a huge chunk of money and converted over all 20-25 poppers to forward falling.

Most of the state has followed and now they are the norm.

And not having bullets leave the range when people double poppers is a huge plus.
