Sling Rigs Used in Iraq

What's the sling rig used frequently in Iraq, with what looks like a tight loop around the buttstock, a short one midships around the buttplate, and the sling coming off the top of the unit for ready-position carry?

Some I've seen in photos appear to be rigged with duct tape.

Should we just to to a top-of-butt sling swivel and a front sight assembly side swivel?

YUP, looks similar to the rigs I've seen, though I don't remember seeing the second vertical loop at mid-buttstock.

Is the Army purchasing off-the-shelf by individual troops, by units, or is the rig in the supply chain?

Some people purchased 3-point type slings for personal use.

MOST people improvised by using the existing sling by attaching the sling around the fore end of the butt-stock instead of where it normally attaches to the front sight assembly.

From what I know, no one was issued any special slings.

That sling in the picture is similar to the one I had. The strap in the middle of the butt-stock is probably for a magazine pouch for easy access.

Many purchase their own slings. I sell the CQB Solutions three point slings and many have gone overseas.

On my carbine I remove the front swivel and put through a 10"piece of 550 para cord knot it in the middle around the front handgaurd cap so the knot is at the base of the front sight housing right before it angles up, same figure 8 on the sliding stock and then loop the standard GI sling through and tape it off on the inside so it cant unravel but is still ajustable and carry it in the ready posistion that way, costs next to nothing to do, its like what the old jfs patrol sling adapter, how that was rigged for carry and it costs nearly nothing and provides hands free carry or patroling with the rifle in the low ready posistion while taking the full weight of the rifle off both hands.I see alot of soldiers jurry rigging their rifles that way and beats a $30 sling.

For the longest time my patrol sling was a bootlace.
