I'm looking at a "Surefire 623G" forend for Mossberg 500/590 shotguns (it says 623G right on the box) but I can find no info on it on Surefire's site. It has the pressure pad and the on/off rocker switch like the current 623FGA, but not the gray rubber insert. It just *looks* like an older model.

Can anyone confirm? Anyone have comments about it?

Well, in case anyone cares, I got the forend and it's a "Laser Products Corp." weaponlight. That company became Surefire. It must have been old stock (Surefire didn't reply to my email), because it came in the factory box with a new light assembly, battery and even a switch blocker. Sure, it doesn't look as nifty as a newer Surefire, but the price was right and it works like a charm.

Now don't you feel better? :)

Good pickup. I got a newer 617FA in exchange for my 617F (also marked Laser Products) in a warranty repair from Surefire.

How is that light working with the bayonet lug and sling stud mounted directly in front of the light?

Sweet. I thought about asking whether they had a trade-up option, but then decided it didn't matter.

The sling doesn't get in the way because I have a Spectre Gear side sling mount plate and a 3-point sling.
