I have a rifle that I am wanting to sell. i have a guy in Canada that is wanting it. I don't even know where to get started on this one. Is it legal to sell it out of country? I have sold many in the US of A, but never out of the country.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I will follow ALL rules, too. Nothing sneaky.

I'm sure Canada will begin confiscating rifles within five years.

You may not sell a firearm directly to a Canadian resident. You can, however, transfer the rifle through a FFL (licensed dealer) to the Canadian, provided he meets the requirements for a foreign alien to purchase a firearm in your state.

I guess I need to clarify this a little farther. He lives in Canada, and is wanting me to ship it through whatever means to Canada. I do not know if it is legal to ship firearms out of the country. I would do it whatever legal means it would take, if it is even legal. It would be an internet sale. He sends me the $$, I send the rifle to whoever I need to send it to in Canada to legally transfer it to him.

Canadian Firearms Manual, Canadian Firearms Center, Dept of Jusitice

you may also want to double check with BATF, there may or may not be laws/regulations about exporting.

The feds don't allow firearm shipments outside the country by non-licensed individuals. You'll have to find a firearms exporter to ship the gun for you.

Sounds like more trouble and expense than it's worth.

...sell it to him in a face to face transaction as a private citizen. Then it's his problem getting it back home.

Looks like my best way is to pass on this sale.

Thanks for the info.

Besides ... that'll not only save you the aggravation, but the cost of a semi-truck to haul all those CANADIAN dollars (exchange rate) to the bank!

I would call up the Canadian consulate and get information on them about shipping a rifle to a Canadian resident.

we just got back from Canada, exchange was $1.37, not as good as it could have been, (for us), but when your looking at $2.98 a gallon for gas....
