My main reason for my interest in politics and taking political 'sides' was taxation.
OVER 40% of my income is taken from me in taxes. (income, sales, gas, telephone, etc.)
The 'side' I initially took was republican. I really liked the tough talk on taxes. The republican 'party line' was one that I could relate to. Later I found that republican politicians tax and spend just as much as democrat politicians, they just spend it on different stuff.
Our government is too big by 100 times and neither dems or reps have any interest in making it smaller. Heck, we just added an entirely new branch of government now called Homeland Defense.
So now I'm a libertarian at heart, which is frustrating because I know that there are thousands of republicans who should be libertarians, they just dont know it yet. Without their votes, the lp will struggle for a long time.

Folks, there are some Democrats I'd be proud to vote for, people who uphold and cherish the Second Amendment as much as we do. Similarly, there are some Republicans for whom I wouldn't vote if you offered me $10 million in cash to do so, payable in advance. You can't tar all members of a party with the same brush.
That said, thread closed.
