I am kind of eyeing a Savage 440 12 gauge OU made by Valmet back in the 1960s or '70s. It looks pretty good, with a Scandinavian blond stock, and metal in good condtion. I've never shot one. Has anyone here got any info on them?

The Valmets had a good rep for durability and so on. Most were combo guns, with rifle barrels and conbinatiuon sets like 12 gauge X .308. They were on the heavy side, IIRC.
Parts might be a problem, but for hunting use, that may not show up for decades.
If the price is right, goaheadon...

I have had one of their shotgun / rifle OU combos for 20+ years.
I used to put a lot of rounds through it. Never had a lick of trouble from it.
I rarely shoot it anymore (too many new toys), but it is still an excellent gun.

I too have one with 3 barrels: 12x12, 12x.308 , .308x.308 . Zero problems , tight as can be I like the teutonic styling . Downside: no ejectors. I think price on one is at least $800. I know mine with 3 barrels is worth $1500+.
