OK, I know this has been said before but I have to say it.

Tried a round of Sporting Clays for the first time this evening. One of the best times I have had in a while, I think I'm hooked. I have not really shot clay targets much at all. I have read the SC is one of the harder clay target sports but it sure was a blast. Missed about half the targets but the variety was fun. The ones bouncing along on the ground were dang hard to hit. Will probably try some regular trap or hand trap a few times soon to work on technique before going back to the SC.

This seems like an addicting sport.

It is very addicting. Where I once shot trap almost exclusively, I'm now more often found on the sporting course. Great fun and always a challenge. If you shot 50 per cent or better your first time out that's a very respectable score particularly if you don't shot the other clay games often.

Keep at it and the scores will climb.

Sporting clays is a fun sport... I like to shoot them, but I mainly shoot trap and skeet. I usually dont shoot sporting clays unless I go to the eastern shore of Maryland to Hopkins.


and the ones that bounce across that ground are called rabbits :p ;)

All clay games are as addicting and expensive as heroin, just not as illegal.

Trap's the most precise, it's almost rifle shooting.

Skeet is kinda slapdash, due to the speed and brief windows.

SC and its little brother 5 stand are all of the above plus variety. No two courses are identical, while trap and skeet ranges are. Some presentations are great practice for hunting, others are fun, and if anyone has witnessed a real teal hurl itself straight up at 50 MPH, please contact me.

All of them are as much fun as we can have fully dressed.

And for those concerned with defensive shotgunning, being able to hit one or two 4" discs moving from 35-50 MPH in divers ways in very short time frames is great practice for hitting much larger, slower and dangerous critters. FYI, much of the human CNS is about 4" wide.

And while these are not a complete defensive shotgun training course, operating your shotgun hundreds of times and having fun is a great way to learn the weapon and reduce the moves to nigh instinctive.

Sporting clays has been around for many years in England , amazing how long it took to get here. Great game, mgreat practice for hunting.
