I've been looking for a 10" (original size, not a cut-down) bayonet for my 1945 Garand. At the shows, they usually run $150-$180. Some of the web stores have them for about $130, and one offers an Italian-made version for $90.

Cheaper-Than-Dirt has one for $100 that 'looks' pretty good, and I e-mailed them to make sure that the picture is accurate, and indeed they said that it is not a cut-down.

Does anyone have any factual knowledge of this bayonet?

Thanks

Alex

I don't know what knowledge you need. The 10" bayonet was the M1 bayonet, the others were Model 1905 (Modified) bayonets, cut down from the old 16" bayonet issued with the Model 1903 rifle.

(The designation "M1" for the bayonet really has nothing to do with its use on the M1 rifle; the bayonet was a separate weapon and was given its own nomenclature. As the first bayonet adopted after the new naming system began, it was the Bayonet, M1.)

I am astonished at the price today of what we used to think of as junk bayonets, but that is the way of the world.

Jim,

I know a bit about the various bayonets for the M1, but was wondering about this specifc one that Cheaper Than Dirt offers; such as if it is orginal USGI, or a reproduction from China or Taiwan, as the price, believe it or not, appears to be very reasonable by today's standards

Thanks for your inputs,

Alex

Nando, they are not cheap, but for about $75 you can get nice ones on ebay.
