I was given a double barrel 12 gauge Mortimer percussion shotgun by one
of my clients. it is not a reproduction but a very old and not well-kept
weapon.
The stock had been painted, a leather strap was tightly wound around
the barrels and the stock to keep them together.
Upon disassembly I found for the rear brace between the barrels had
come loose. Hence the leather strap.
It will take some work to restore it but I am stymied by the need for
a left and right hammer.
If anyone has a line, thought, or inventive answer I will listen.

I don't have a clue offhand, but it's been a long day. Just for the heck of it, any idea if it's the Mortimer from Scotland or the Mortimer from London? The one was a T.E. (IIRC) and the other H.W. There are a few for sale on the auction sites from time to time, so it's possible to get an idea of what the hammers looked like or maybe pick up a trashed gun for little or nothing to get the hammers.

John, I think my first message to you may have failed due to my at lack of experience at this site.
The Mortimer is a London make. I will begin paying attention at gun shows now.

Regardless, don't fix it with the intention of ever shooting it.

In the sad condition you describe, it undoubtedly has pitted Damascus barrels, and will never be safe with any load again.

Roger that. the glass gun case only contains relics and the grandkids BB guns.
under the paint and the dirt of 140 years is some beautiful scrollwork. That leather strap hints that someone will is using it in as is condition. the percussion nipples should scare anyone in their current condition.
