Surefire G2 Nitrolon

Are they good? I recently realized that I can get one for only $30. 65 lumens for an hour, and is much cheaper than an E2E. What's the difference? why would something with the same power retail for $45 more? Is the G2 a good light? Should I get it?

Wow, dems a lot of questions. :D

1. I don't have one but from what I can garner it seems that they are FUNCTIONALLY equivalent to a 6P Classic but without the aluminum body, lockout tailcap, anti-roll bezel and Pyrex lens.

2. Compare to the 6P above. Difference between E2e includes all of the above -- plus the G2 does not have the handy pocket clip of the E2e.

E2e uses different lamp assembly -- you cannot use the P60/P61 lamp assemblies as the E2e uses a special lamp that runs for 75 mins at 60 lumens (NOT 60 mins at 65 lumens like the 6P Classic and G2 Nitrolon).

You also cannot convert the E2e to a rechargeable light ... you can do so with the G2 by purchasing the KR1 kit.

Lastly, I do not believe any of the Surefire filters or LED conversions will work with the G2.

3. Polymer is cheaper to use than hard anodized aluminum. As you may or may not know, the manufacture of aluminum involves a relative large expenditure of electricity ($$$), leading to the nickname "canned electricity".

4. If you don't need any of the above differences, by all means get the G2. At $30 per light, it's very hard to beat that deal.

I've only had mine for a few months but I really like it. Last week, I upgraded the bulb to the 61P (120 lumens, 20 minutes :( ). Man, I'm diggin' this little light. I am planning to upgrade to one of the aluminum bodied ones soon tho ;)

If you don't have a lot to spend, but want a rockin' flashlight, the G2 Nitrolon is great.
It's what I carry.

I have one I use on duty, and am pleased with it so far. I have had it for over a year and am still using the same batteries.

I had one for a while but i upgraded to a 10x rechargable and an M2. It is a great little light for the money, especally when you can get CR123 batteries at $15 for 12 direct from surefire. The G2 can be lock out by turning the bezel a few turn instead of turning the tailcap like their more expensive model. Good luck with the new light!

G2- they have a plastic holster if you want to carry it around that way. they have all the color filters and IR filters also for the G2

You can get a Brinkmann LX (2x CR123a lithium batteries, included, Xenon bulb) for 20 bux at Wally World, and the beam is just as good, according to the gurus over at the candlepower forum. It's aluminum, has a grippy surface, and is available right now, right there.

I guess form factor may not be quite as cute as the Surefire, but like 'em a lot.

I've been looking for the Brinkmanns at my local Wal-Marts, but none of them has any. :(

I keep a Scorpion in my car and the G2 on my nightstand. However, my EDC is an Underwater Kinetics 2L. It's smaller than any flashlight I own, but still uses 2 CR123A batteries, making it really bright (though not as bright as the G2). The reduced brightness means that it's more useful as a utility light and can last around 4-5 hours on a set of batteries. It's also non-magnetic, which is pretty useful when I'm passing through the metal detectors at work.

I like my G2. I think I'm going to try one of the Streamlight 2 cell lithium Task Lights. It's a dual setup. Xenon buld does 72 Lumens similar to the G2 and has an LED mode for lower light needs and longer runtime. Sometimes I find the G2 too bright for some applications. It's about the same price. Seems like a good car light. For 30 bucks I am going to give one a try.

I have E2E and G2Z, they have, in my opinion, different functions. The G2 is a tactical light, the e2 is small enough to have all the time. I know I'm shading the differences. But get the G2, you won't be sorry, unless you need the smaller package of the E2.
