This is my first post here, so i hope i put this in the proper location.
I picked up a Ruger Super Redhawk today in 454 casull, and now i am going to need to get a holster for it. I am looking for a vertical shoulder holster for a 7 1/2" barrel and it is scoped. I looked at a few uncle mikes holsters, and liked the design, but i cant find one that is left handed. Does anyone know a good place online that i can look for holsters, none of my local shops have what i need.
Many thanks in advance,
J

Welcome to THR! For vertical holsters for the SRH, there are several options. Uncle Mikes is probably not up to the challenge. You could get one that would be fine for storage purposes, but that's a lot of iron and you should get something in quality leather or reinforced material.
Galco makes a big honking one for mucho dinero:

Cosmoline,
I was hoping to stick with a shoulder holster rather than a chest one. I want to be able to still carry my muzzle loader with me, and be able to use either.
I hunt in a large amount of farm country where i might be down in the woods or swamps at one point, and might find myself slipping out to a hay field if need be. So i would like to still have my muzzle loader for longer range shots. Until i have had time to perfect my 100+ yard shots with a pistol. For now I'm trying to keep it around 50 yds.
I do like the look of those models though, and will definitely look into them some more.
Many thanks,
J

A true shoulder holster for a SRH with scope is going to be like holding a piece of luggage under your arm. But the Bianchi X-15 might be able to do it.
In my experience, a good chest holster does not get in the way of a rifle.

Cosmoline,
sorry i took so long to respond,
i was out of town for a while. i did get a chance to look into the alaska sportsman chest holster, and it seems like it might be a good option. i just wish i could see one before i spend $90 on it.
thanks again for all your help,

Irishlager,
If you are handy with leather, try making your holster. I designed and made a vertical pouch shoulder holster for my S&W M629, 6.5" barrel, with 2X Leupold EER scope. Obtain brown paper grocery bag and open it up. Fold over the pistol in pouch shape and trim excess paper. Leave about 1/2 inch paper outside gun for stitching/lacing. Mark OUTSIDE surface of pattern. Buy 9-10 oz stiff leather and use paper pattern to cut leather. BE SURE TO HAVE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF PATTERN AND OUTSIDE SURFACE OF LEATHER BOTH FACING UP. Stitch/lace leather as desired. Wrap pistol in double layer of Saran Wrap, dampen holster with water, insert pistol and bone/mold holster to curvature of pistol. Let dry thoroughly with pistol still inside. Buy leather straps and large shoulder support piece; attach to pouch holster. Finish holster and straps with Neatsfool oil or other leather finish of your choice. Mine works great. Hunted with it for 8 years.
Good shooting and be safe.

LB,
Cant say that i have much experience w/ leather. As much as i would enjoy making a holster, i think it would be best i purchase one. I've waited a long time to purchase a pistol for hunting, and i think it best i buy an adequate holster that will help protect my new companion. Many thanks for the advice, and perhaps one day ill be confident enough to make a holster.
