Ok, so I ran across an old Savage model 101 and found out that Ruger was supposedly making something just like it at the same time (60's). Can anyone give me some info on such a Ruger please?
Chuck

I've seen and shot the pistol you describe.
If I recall it is called the "Hawkeye", chambered in some oddball caliber.... .256 Winchester or some similiar named round.
The breech pivots open and has one chamber, otherwise basicaly a Ruger Blackhawk revolver with the funky single-shot breech instead of a 6 shot cylinder.
I was young when I shot one of these. Belonged to a friend of my fathers. Worked pretty good, but needed a scope, as the guys pistol just has iron sights. Was loud too!

If you scroll down to the bottom of this page (http://www.galleryofguns.com/ShootingTimes/Articles/DisplayArticles.asp?ID=405) there's a brief description of the Ruger Hawkeye, chambered in .256 Win. Mag.
