Got to the range yesterday to try out the Walther P5 I just picked up. The pistol's windage is well regulated with the adjustable sights centered on the slide. Pistol hits about 2.5 inches low at 15 yards. Reliability was 100% with 50 rounds of 115gr Winchester FMJ, 50 rounds of Winchester 124gr Nato, and 16 rounds of Winchester 115 gr JHP. Fast reaction drills - starting with DA punched a hole in the center of the target about 2" below the X. A very positive experience with this pistol. Went home to clean it and discovered the dark side to this gun. Thing has more edges and crevices inside than my AR! This will not be a gun I enjoy cleaning. The breechface is recessed into the slide and, combined with a small ejection port, is difficult to keep clean (along with the extractor). End of report.

I have a Walther P-5 my gun shoot excellent. The only thing I did to it was change the recoil springs to wolf eight pounders. My gun shoots right on the money. I shoot 124 & 147 ammunition. I never found it to be a problem cleaning. I remove the grips and clean the gun down with hoppes9 and a tooth brush, then spray the entire gun with gun scrubber. Do not get gun scrubber on the grips they will discolor them. For the barrel Hoppes 9 and a brass brush and gun scrubber, then an oil patch and then a dry one all done but the oiling. I find my 1911's much more intense with many more parts for cleaning than the P-5. My p-5 is 100% reliable with Hp's and very compact. Did you buy the gun new or used? They stopped making these guns which is too bad they are great pistols and very well made with high quality. For parts and service try Earl's Repair Service Tewksbury MA. He is expensive but he can fix them and does have a web site.

'Preciate the info on gunscrubber! Hadn't tried it yet but have been thinking about it... Guess I'll stick to the hopps. In addition to the breechface I think the slide cutouts for the tilting block are awkward to get into and clean. I use the toothbrush method also but guess I need a smaller brush. I had heard about Earls but didn't know where they fell on there prices (never had to compare for Walther parts before). Keep the info coming!
