Who's a fan of the .41 Magnum round? As I type this, I'm cleaning my 6" S&W M57. I bought it used for $350, and it was in MINT condition. Shooting it told me I love it. Can't decide if I love it more than my 25-5 in .45 Colt, but what the hell. LOL

So, who loves .41? What's your favorite gun in this caliber? What's your favorite load for various applications. Georgia Arms 210grain JHPs are snappy. Federals cast-core 250 grain bullets pack a whoomp, but don't seem to recoil as much as GA's 210s. 175 grain Silvertips are altogether mild out of this gun.

I'm considering buying a Taurus stainless steel .41 Snubby to augment my N-frame. Anybody have one? How's it shoot?

I bought a .41 Bisley long ago because it just sat on the dealers rack gathering dust. I got a pretty good deal on it because he just wanted it gone. Best money I ever spent on a gun. It now has a pristine 3 screw Blackhawk brother and if I can ever pry my buddies hands off his DW 41 it will join them. The old DWs are hard to find in .41.
My .41s have never shot factory stuff and very few jacketed bullets, the old 220 grain Speer HJSWC was the best for them. They thrive on cast bullets. A 195 and a 250 grainer backed with enough H110, Unique, or AA2 to get the levels I want.
I play with my .44s and .45s, but serious shooting is with the .41.
Now if Ruger will stop teasing and bring out the Limited 5.5" SS .41mag Bisley I will get one if the good Lords willing and the creek don't rise. I keep looking at the Redhawk in 5.5" but haven't quite made up my mind over that yet.
The ultimate is to find one of the rare Pythons that were suppose to have been built in .41mag.

Yeah, its a cool cartridge. Have six guns chambered in forty-one. Don't use commercial stuff and only roll my own. Bullets I load range from 205 grain DEWC to 265 grain LBT style and everything in between.

yup
I too love the .41 I was not too familiar with the round until I started reading some John Taffin stuff.
A couple years ago I was working in the extreme northeast, and found a near mint model 57 6". It was such a great experience to start firing that gun and discovering what I had been missing. I have since added a 4" 57, an old model 3-screw blackhawk, and a taurus tracker. I know a lot of folks here knock the taurus- but that gun has become my go anywhere outdoors gun.
I had a chance recently to get a Freedom Arms in .41- but just couldn't justify the coin for that at the time- perhaps next time...
now, I just gotta start reloading soon.

A six-inch Smith M57 that I bought from Jerry Miculek started me on the .41 Magnum road. Next .41 was a seven inch stainless Ruger Redhawk and a blued five and a half inch Redhawk followed it. My most recent .41 handgun is a factory nickeled Smith M58. I've been using the M58 the most lately, but took the blued Redhawk out to shoot the rhinos in the June THR mail in match.

I added a Marlin 1894 in .41 Magnum to the handguns back in April.

I mostly shoot my own reloads, a 210 or 215 LSWC with enough Unique under it to reach 1,000 fps. It's a failry mild load, but is accurate in all my guns. It was a fine bowling pin load too, the AMFs left the table in a shower of splinters!

I see at least a few more .41 Magnums in my future.

I Do! I Do! http://www.mansun-nl.com/smilies/bounce.gif

Only problem is, I don't have one anymore. Had a S&W model 57, scoped. It was a feral hog killin' machine but I thought I needed something even more so I sold it.
Local dealer has a BlackHawk 41 hanging on the rack, I fondle it everytime I'm in there. It'll probably follow me home soon.
Still have a bunch of 41 brass & bullets I need to use up. As good an excuse as any!

I've got an S&W Model 58 that I picked up in 99.5% condition for just a shade under $300 a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure what my current load is for it, but I know that it shoots quite low...

My ex brother-in-law had an 8&3/8" S&W model 57 that I kept for him for a couple of years in the 70's and 80's, loved that gun!

Just sent a check for my own this week. Mine is a duplicate of his, except mine is in nickel. I have .44's, 357's, blah blah blah, in excess, but I'm panting like a puppy waiting for that rod to arrive!

I have 2 57's, a 6 and a 4 inch, both nickel of course. My favorite load is 7.0 of Unique and a cast swc. Got mine cause Skeeter told me to.

Recently traded for a 5.5" Redhawk in .41, and although I hadn't really taken any interest in the caliber before this gun came along, I've gotta say I love it now. It speaks with much more authority than I would have expected--I mean, the difference between the .41 and the .357 feels bigger than it looks on paper. But not in a harsh way; I can shoot full-power loads very comfortably.

Also like the range of the caliber. Great range of bullet weights and velocities--really, closer to the vast range of the .38/357 than I expected.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna take mine out to test a red-dot on top for a silhouette shoot next week. A full load of 2400 oughta knock them chickens into next week!

Love those .41s. About a year and a half ago I went looking for a big bore handgun, actually I had never heard of a .41mag. Saw a Taurus model 415 stainless 2 1/2 in. barrel, ribber grips ported, looked so good, and fit my hand so good. That was it, I was sold. After I found out how much ammo cost and how much I liked shooting it, I started reloading. I also decided to try deer hunting for the first time, of course handgun, but Illinois specifies minimum 4" barrel. Now I have a new model Blackhawk in .41mag. 4 5/8 barrel. I put Houge rubber grips on the Blackhawk, still like the Taurus grips better. I don't know how life could get any better, Jim.

Love those 41's, Marlin 1894 CCL, S&W's, blued, nickel and stainless; Ruger Redhawks and Blackhawks and Bisleys, all are accurate and hard hitting. 5.0 grains of Titegroup and generic 215 SWC is a great Cowboy Shooting load; 20.0 grains of Lil' Gun and 220 Keith SWC has a little more authority, especially from the Marlin.

My first handgun was a .41 mag blackhawk, in '93.
It shot so well I didn't bother with any others for quite a while.
However, I started buying a gun a year sometime in '99.
I'm roughly at one a month lately.
In 2000, a 7 1/2 657 hunter.
In 2001, a taurus 425 4" .41 mag.
In 2002, I discovered 10mm, and bought a few of those.
In 2003, I got a SBH hunter, 8", gonna send it to Gary Reeder one of these days.
I have a Marlin lever action .41 on order, and I hope it arrives before 2004!
My next revolver is prolly gonna be a 610, but if I see a model 57 4", or a S&W performance center .41 snubby, the limited nature of these acquisitions make them very hard to refuse.
I'm waiting for the acusport bisley 5" to come out in .41, that will be a must-have type item. Hopefully, before 2005.
