Police say the man, apparently a 22-year-old Guyanese student, was carrying a .50 caliber black powder Wolf muzzle loader rifle inside a bag. Public Safety officers quickly disarmed the suspect and have turned him over to the NYPD.
If my search is correct the weapon was probably a CVA muzzle loader
On the side bar of the news piece they show what looks to ba a .50 BMG single shot rifle. and says his rifle was similar to the picture!

I sent them an email pointing out the probable error.

I would say stupidity, or lack of knowledge on the subject or firearms, and black powder rifles.

Yep. Google..... Barrett is the first choice that comes up.
Not bias OR stupidity, just laziness which in my opinion is worse.

If they are anything like our own Baltimore Sun, nearly complete ignorance of firearms is probably seen as a moral virtue. The media goes to great lengths to sensationalize anything that they are unlikely to be sued over. Taking a cap lock rifle from a guy isn't that exciting, and people may look at it as kind of stupid, enter the barrett pic. They can't come out and SAY the police thwarted an iminent sniper/terrorist attack, due to the liability, but IMPLYING it even in a subtle way furthers their agenda. I have writen COUNTLESS letters to the media correcting firearms related stupidity, and only a couple have recieved a canned "Journalistic integrity is very important to our organization, and all topics are thouroughly researched, the printed results are a culmination of that research". Funny that writing letters to correct other things (namely automotive screwups) are recieved a little warmer, some even with a canned "we appolagise for the error in our research and have issued a correction on page XX the following day"
The media is probably the most biased, racist, and blatantly misinforming field outside of the government. They knew that picture wasn't a muzzleloader, I doubt they are that stupid or lazy, I dare say I think it was ON PURPOSE:eek:
