Your state government probably has a website. Google "Washington State government offices" and see what you get.

There is a quirk in the WA law. In many states your automobile is considered an extension of your home; in other states your automobile is considered an extension of your clothing. Washington falls under the latter. Thus, while open carry is legal, once you get into your car or truck (with your gun on your belt) you are carrying concealed.

The permit runs in the neighborhood of $60 or so. It’s a pretty painless process other than that.

I just got my Washington carry permit this year. If I recall if was about $60 and a very simple process.

I read the requirements in the link and it says you must be a resident of King county.

Is it that one can only get a CCW in king county OR is it that this link is to the office in King county that issues CCW and one must get a CCW for each county? --that seems like a pain--

OR maybe one has to get their CCW in the county that they live but its good for the whole state?

Anyone know?

I might just apply for an out of state CCW next time I'm up visiting the in-laws.

If you live in the unincorporated area of a county you must apply in person at your sheriff’s office. If you live in an incorporated city within the county, you may apply in person at either the city police department or sheriff’s office. Non-Washington residents may apply at any local law enforcement agency in the state.

Yeah, getting a WA permit is pretty fast, easy, and painless. When I as stationed at Whidbey Island, it took all of 10 minutes to fill out the application, hand them the money, and get printed.Had my permit 10 days later.Just go to the local police station, or sheriff's office if outside city limits, and you should be on your way pretty quick.

The most recent one I have experience with, the fellow went to the Sheriff's office (30 minute drive,) filled out the application (15 minutes,) got printed (10 minutes,) paid $60.00, waited for NICS (5 minutes) and drove back to work (30 minute drive.) His license arrived in the mail two days later.

So there is no class one has to take for a CCW in WA state?

Washington Constitution Article I, Section 24

The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.

Nothing in there about taking a class.

Hey thats pretty nice. Most states seems to require people to take a class and then they can only carry the firearms that they qualify with and so on. All of which costs $$$.

I live in CA so ofcourse there really is no such thing as a CCW. So being able to just walk in and fill out the paper work (and pay only 60 bucks ) to get a CCW is kind of amazing to me.

Dang CA laws. :fire:
