Has anyone seen the Winchester Commerative Box of .45 COLT John Wayne
Commerative Ammo? We have several boxes of this ammo, along with the
same design in .30-.30 Winchester. Price is $23.95 for the .30-.30; and
$36.95 for the .45 COLT~!

Sorry, but I can't see paying these prices for a box~! :barf: "The Duke"
was a great guy and good actor; but hells bells is he worth this price? :scrutiny:

Haven't seen the ammo; wouldn't buy it.

The only excuse for buying it is if you are a foaming-at-the-mouth collector of All Things John Wayne, so you "need" it for your personal collection. In that case it'd be worth it for your personal satisfaction. But you'll never make a dime on it. Your grandchildren might.

Buying it hoping it'll go up in value and make you $$ when you sell it is an investment. There are better investments by far. IMHO this is true of firearms & ammo in general, except possibly very high-end pieces, and I haven't got $50,000 to stick into a Purdey to wait until it goes to $60,000.

And if I did have 50 k to invest, there are stocks that'll go up faster.

The only ones who will make big bucks off John Wayne commemorative ammuntion will be (1) Olin Corporation (Winchester,) and (2) whoever licenses John Wayne's name and likeness.

I'm waiting for it to go on clearence at walmart, just to have a box of the 30-30. I like JW, thought it'd be neat, but it's just not worth $21 to me.

Yeah, I saw that...wondered what the hell the point was too. Just for a box with a picture of John Wayne? Sheesh...if I like him that much I'll just print my own picture...

Just another ploy to exploit the gullible. Period. End of story.

Hey I was older then, I am younger now*, I forget what year, and what the commemorative was about; I just won the darn things, and still have them. :D

I saw this ammo at an auction.
They had a John Wayne Winchester rifle that was really fancy. It brought 1300.00. The John Wayne ammo for it brought 50.00 a box.

I've seen it at BPS but most stores don't carry it. I know WalMart doesn't.
In fact, when it first came out last year , I inquired about it but was told your gunshop had to order it special from Winchester. I guess they've relaxed the rules since then.
In addition to the pictures on the box, each round also has a special John Wayne headstamp I believe. Not saying it's worth the money but might be attractive to collectors. Actually if prices on regular ammo keep going up, it just might end up being bargain ammo.
In addition to that which came out last year, there's the John Wayne ammo that came out in '82 that fits the commemorative rifle. I believe it's in 32/20 or something similar.

I haven't sen the John Wayne ammo. I do remember last year that Winchester "supposedly" had some promo .30-06 ammo (100 years, yada yada yada). I say 'supposedly' because I NEVER saw any on the shelf anywhere.

I asked at all the local various "Big Box" sporting goods and the local mom-n-pop gunshops MANY times, but everywhere I asked, they looked at me like I had 5 heads and shoulda been in a circus tent. I even had printed the e-mail from Winchester's "Red Club" with the pix of the ammo boxes.....ah, well such is life....

I admit I bought a box,but hey I've bought a lot of SD ammo that dosen't work and the JW box looks cool next to my box of legendary frontiersman ammo on my dresser.

I have one round of the stuff that they gave away as a door prize at one of the SASS matches I attended.

I think it's .45 LC. I don't own any guns in .45 LC, so it sits on the mantlepiece.
