Concerning H.B. 1791, in Judiciary Committee of the State House, as of 1 July, 2003, which has been mentioned in other posts, members of The House should be inundated with opposition to this ridiculous proposal.

Other than that, the bill has been described by some as DOA. While for this session, that might be the case, and you can bet your bottom dollar on this, it will be back. Given this circumstance, and taking a lesson from New Jersey, where last year, a so-called Smart Gun Law finally passed, eventually such legislation might pass here too.

Given that the names of the sponsors of this legislation are listed as part of the proposal, an object lesson must be taught to these individuals, such lesson also serving "for the encouragement of others". The lesson I refer to is the following. That support for or sponsorship of such legislation is a career killer, or should one prefer, is political suicide.

The sponsors of this legislation are betting on the electorates notoriously short attention span or memory, and looking at past performances, elections are a bit more than a year away, they might be making a safe bet. Show them that they are terribly wrong, and might I note, for general interest, that NOW is not to early to start working toward the unseating of those who sponsor or support such as H.B. 1791

Any interested parties, and there should be a bunch, I hope:

Pull up a copy of H.B. 1791 or get a copy from your elected things office. The names of sponsors are listed as the head of the thing, first page.

For those of the lazy persuasion, that is lazier than yours truly, which would be quite an accomplishment, the following is a listing of sponsors:

PRINTER'S NO. 2321
