There are a lot of fine ARs out there. I'm looking at the low-to-mid range options, all of which look perfectly fine but as always I like to get the most bang for my buck (pun intended).

So, which of the following do you think is the way to go? Assuming, of course, it was your money you were plunking down for HD/SHTF.

I have no personal experience with the others but my Bushmaster has been 100% reliable with about 2,000 rounds through it.

Having sold a bunch of all of those, I like Stag the best.

I know a lot more about using an AR than building one but every time I go to the range and somebody plays with my Stag lower/CMMG upper they complement it. That includes two gunsmith/FFL types. So I vote Stag.

I love my Stag, but they are all about the same with the ones you mentioned. I don't think you will be dissapointed with any of them.

I love my Stag, but they are all about the same with the ones you mentioned Yeah, because Stag makes the uppers and lowers for two of the others on that list. :)

If you want a plain jane AR, or don't plan on doing much with it, go Bushmaster. They seem to be the "Honda Accord" of AR-15's.

Otherwise, Stag.

Care to elaborate? I don't disagree I'm just curious why somebody who is so familiar with them all would like one above the others.

Go with either a Stag or a Rock River. The RRA is going to be more money but they are probably the best ARs on the market now. They are hard to get-everyone wants em so some models are backordered into next year. One of the reasons why is that RRA builds each gun mostly by hand so production is slow.

But the Stags are great rifles as well. I would say that the quality is a little behind a RRA (but not much), but they are cheaper and easily to find/get. In the end I would recommend the Stag.

I'd probably have to go with Stag myself. To me the S&W and Bushy are overpriced, and the RRA doesn't come standard with Chrome lining.

Stag or RRA lower, with a Lewis Machine and Tool upper, which is top end, but not too pricey if purchased as a seperate part. Lower + LMT Upper + the couple other parts you need (bolt, bolt carrier, charging handle and hand guards) will end up giving you a really good weapon (1:7" twist chrome lined barrel, plus generally superb quality) for about what you'll end up paying for an assembled M4gery type AR from Bushmaster or RRA.

I have to admit I own two Oly guns, both forged receivers. One was built in 1982 and has fired thousands of rounds with no problems. The second was pick up on trade for my daughter - a 16 inch varmint barreled gun that was priced at $699 NIB. We've only run a few hundred rounds through it, but it is a tack driver. I've heard a lot of bad things about Oly, but so far I've had zero problems.

I vote for Stag. I bought a Bushy first and I believe you will find it your most expensive option. It had a canted barrel new from the factory and they wanted me to pay for shipping on the warranty repair. I got them to pay and it came back with the rear sight slightly worse for the wear (it wouldn't turn past a certain point that it had before, and it is still stiff turning past that point). The gas key on the bushy was not properly staked either. Recently I bought a Stag upper, well staked gas key and no canted barrel, additionally the BUIS it came with was properly zeroed. The Stag is an excellent value for the price & quality.

Yeah, because Stag makes the uppers and lowers for two of the others on that list.

I was under the impression Stag doesn't make lowers, they, RRA, and S&W (along with a lot of other companies) get them from CMT. Uppers I don't know about.

Does L.A.R. still supply Bushmaster?

Best bang for the buck, Stag.

LMT is a hair better than Stag too, but they are a bit more money.

I vote Bushmaster. Mine ran anything besides Wolf ammo. It shot good groups at 100 yards on iron sights with dirt cheap Winchester white box 5.56. Comes chrome lined. Theyre all good names though. Go wherever you find the best deal.

I heard they're all good, I never hear complaints from stag, bushmaster or RRA, but have heard very very little with S&W on these boards.

All people who bought the S&W have reported good results.

If it really comes down to it, go with the one or the parts that are in stock, cause it seems like everyone is on backorder these days...

I vote Stag, also. When I bought my AR I did quite a bit of research and for the money Stag seems to be the best buy. Mine is a flat top on which I put a cheap BSA 3x-9x scope on. This is just to get to shot it until I decide on what I really want on top of it. with Federal AE 55gr. I can get a 2" group at 100 yds. I haven't done much reloading for it yet but will when I get back to work so I can buy the supplies. It's been very reliably so far as I only had one FTF and that was my fault in not making sure that the mag was setted.

This may be of interest: http://www.gun-tests.com/issues/19_10/features/5453-1.html

Do it right the first time and getcha a Colt 6921 or LMT upper on a quality lower. Colt and LMT are lightyears ahead of those mentioned in terms of quality.
