am going to buy a 1911 soon. i want a plain jane model, but for the most part they are parkerized. if i buy a parkerized gun and have the front strap lifted and checkered, can the gun then be blued, or am i stuck with parkerizing?

The Parkerizing can be polshed off to bare steel and the gun then blued.
If you put a Parkerized piece directly in the bluing tank it comes out flat black but still with the coarse phosphate texture.

Parked guns can get away with less prep than a blued one. The cost of refinishing will far outweigh any savings you're trying to get by buying the parkerized one in the first place.

I concur with Sigfan. To have a good blue job the steel has to be prepped to a mirror finish. Parkerizing can go on over a rough one. Get yourself a nice blued gun and forget it.
