Thats why we need to ban guns from school! It's for the children! :D
I hope he gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law plus more. These are the kind of people who cause us to loose our rights.

Explain how the case at hand would have gone if the teacher had been in possession of a handgun.
I see cases where a firearm could save lives; I see cases where a shoot-out would happen. I see cases where merely the thought of a firearm in the room would have prevented the bad guy from entering, thus saving lives.
Since I didn't see much position in the original post, I am curious of the direction intended.

Of course, an armed teacher does not automatically and completely protect those in his/her care. Badness can happen, the question is how to adjust the odds.
Yes, an armed teacher could have led to a shootout.
Yes, this situation apparently ended about as well as conceivable.
Either might not have.
It was all pretty much at the mercy of a whacked-out minor, who with the flick of a wrist and a twitch of a finger could have made things very bad.
I don't like those odds.
