Took it out yesterday and ran 100 rounds of WWB through it without a failure. This is an accomplishment in itself as we all know that WWB is probably the worst 9mm to break in a new gun.I was just ramboing in the forest and had a blast!!! Most shooting was off the hip as all i had for hearing protection was my muffs and its REAL hard to aim the Sub 2000 off your shoulder with muffs on.Ejection wasnt as strong as id like (about a foot in the air from the gun) and i had too many issues getting the mag to lock in but other than that i LOVE it.I called Kel-Tec about the mag being hard to get locked in place and the lady i talked to said SHE wasnt aware of the problem but would ask someone else. The mag (factory 10 round MecGar) locks in fine when empty (initially it wouldnt even do that),but when full it really takes a firm hand (or 20 pound sledge!) to get that mag locked in and ready to rock.Im confident ill get this issue resolved and let me tell ya,my Hi-Point may have to take a back seat to the 2000 as the gun thats ALWAYS there!
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!:D

My wife and I were passing one of these back and forth at the gun store the other day, but they were asking $380 for it, which seemed a bit high. Besides, I have already decided that a Winchester Ranger .357 is going to be my 'Fun Carbine'.

Tropical,
Good to see that you are pleased with it as I think that will be my next purchase. Are you planning on getting any of the accessories for it? I guess it is possible to use a scope or laser with it to make it more "FUN".
Am I correct with this?

try loading a mag that is -1 from full. If that loads easier, it is stiff mag springs making it hard to compress that last round when you insert a full mag (when you put in a full mag it will push down the top round a little). The spring is probably new, and will weaken and become easier.

Congrats TZ.

Wonder if there would be anyway to modify a STEN mag to run in the 2000?
Now that would be wonderfully cool, would it not?

What is the trigger like?
I assume being a KT it's DAO every shot. Is it as stiff as say their 9mm or 40 cal pistols?

Take care

Don't know about that but there is a method to run Sten mags in AR15s.

Thanx yzguy,i never think of that and i know about it.From now on im Mister Dumbhead!:p
Selfdfenz-That would be awesome if it would take Sten or Uzi mags! I dont know why Kel-Tec or Hi-Point dont do it.As for the trigger,i was having so much fun i didnt even pay attention to it! I guess that means its OK!:D

Selfdfenz,

The Sub-rifles are single-action. The trigger on the Sub-9 is actually quite nice, but the Sub-2000 is pretty hard.

Just checked the price of STEN mags at CDNN and the are 5$ for a 32 round mag in good condition.
Add 2$ for assorted Dremel wheels (probably too much) and it seems like an experiment worth trying.

I can't see anything wrong or illegal with modifying the mag itself to fit the 2000 as STEN mags are a pre-ban as they come and the restriction is on the mag and not the rifle/pistol.

Could the trigger spring be modified to require less pull and still fire the gun?? Wonder if springs for the 9 and 2000 would swap out?

Take care,

I think the difference is related (somehow) to the difference between aluminum and polymer receivers? This would definitely be a question to ask of KTOG (http://www.ktog.org/index.html). (Click on bulletin board.)

Interestingly enough, one can find reviews by both Oleg and I here...

Ive seen the cheap Uzi and Sten mags and i think ill get one of each just to see if it can be done without altering the mags ability to be used in the gun it was made for. That would be great,as both Uzi and Sten mags are INEXPENSIVE! If anyone reading this can compare a 5906 mag to that of a Sten or Uzi,PLEASE report back.;)

I'll be buying one of these bastards if they'll take slightly modded sten mags, oooooh boy... Keep us updated. Somebody (I think RPBusa) is making M11/9 clones that take Sten mags, one of those would be nice too.

That's the key thing there. Even if you don't have the original gun that it was designed for, the ATF gets grumpy if it won't after modifications in the original weapon.

Let us know if it does work as that may be the straw that breaks my back and I finally get one. ;)

The problem with the sten mag is that it is a straight stick style that feeds at a 90 degree angle. The Sub-9/2000 takes an angled feed pistol type mag, which practically guarantees that it won't work with the sten mag. Too bad though, it would have been a sweet combo. Mabe KelTec could make a version that takes sten mags, that would sell pretty well don'tya think?
