Gotta love those Hondas! Anyone follow "Click & Clack" (Tom and Ray Magliozzi) of "Car Talk" fame? They also write a nationally-syndicated newspaper column. This is one lucky woman from today's (July 10) article.

"Dear Tom and Ray: I live in Los Angeles. I have a '93 Honda Civic Del Sol with 127,000 miles. Last week when I was driving home from work at 75 mph on the southbound 405 freeway, someone in a passing car on my left or someone in an oncoming car fired a gun. The bullet, a .40-caliber, went through the door and hit me in the chest, then ricocheted and fell onto my seat. I suffered no injuries. The Special Investigation Unit is now handling the incident. My question is, what is the cost of fixing the bullet hole in the door of this car?" - Ellen

Might be a reason why LEOs spend so much time testing the penetration ability of their carry loads. And, no, Ellen didn't say anything about Kevlar implants. ;)

Probably shot from a long ways away, nowhere near the highway, and just about out of velocity by the time it hit the car.

Don't suppose it was a LEO miss ...? :)

YEAH, B16s ALL THE WAY!

I'm glad she didn't get hurt. My guess is that the round probably hit other objects before penetrating the door and/or also hit the bars for the window if it was up or the window itself if it was down. (Del Sols generally have pretty good aerodynamics for a targa topped car so 75 mph with the windows down is possible, if a bit noisy, without too much turbulance inside.)

Yeah, I can't believe she got 127,000 miles out of a Honda Del Sol either!

There is a mistake here.

That honda didn't resist the bullet, her chest did!

Kevlar implant?
