I got chinese sks and a scope kit yesterday. I know that if you scope the m-44 you can remove the front sight and bayonet mount. Can you do this on the sks and if not please explain why not.
Thanks.

My brother bought an SKS that had an origional bayonet mount, and a grenade launcher :-) He scoped it, cut off the mount and launcher but kept the front site (in case the scope ever got messed up). There are a lot of aftermarket parts for the SKS now, if you look on gunbroker you can find adjustable stocks, etc. Just out of curiosity, does yours take mags or is it internal feed?

You COULD remove the frontsightbase/bayolug, but the question you have to ask your self "is it worth the trouble".

Just leave it on. Someday you may get tired of your SKS and it will be a lot more salable if you can put it all back to original.

Definitely leave the front sight on.

I have a red dot on a scout mount. hits good and the scope in on a higher aimpoint type mount so you do not see the iron sights.

the standard imported SKS's I've seen have an internal mag (most are 10 rnds). I have seen a ton online, for free states only, that have detachable mags (up to 100 round drums actually).

The way to tell is this. When you load your rifle, do you take a magazine and insert it into the bottom of the reciever like an ARor an AK? Or do you push down 10 bullets into the top of the receiver? Or do you use stripper clips from the top of the reciever? The last two would indicate an internal, non-detachable mag.

Did the same. I HATE that worthless bayonet lug. When I carry on a sling through brush, it just grabs onto everything. So, I lopped it off and cold blued the stub. Been happy with it ever since.
