Supreme Court Docket site (http://www.supremecourtus.gov/docket/07-290.htm)The reply petition isnt due until the 5th, and the docket lists the cert petition as the last action, so they havent accepted the case yet.

"What we ban is a weapon that is uniquely dangerous, that is easily concealed and that is disproportionately used in crime," said Linda Singer, Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
In a surprising ruling, a federal appeals court earlier this year declared the ban a violation of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The law was challenged by a Washington, D.C., resident who claimed the Constitution gives him a right to own a handgun for self-defense.
Oh, gosh! I had no idea I had so many "uniquely dangerous" guns!
Goebbels would be so proud of today's leftist extremists.

Read the MSNBC article more carefully. It never says that the DC case has been accepted yet by the Supreme Court for review. In that respect, everything it says it is true. But given the overall thrust of the article, the impression a casual reader gets is false. Lousy reporting.

"What we ban is a weapon that is uniquely dangerous, that is easily concealed and that is disproportionately used in crime"
...in a city with a disproportionate amount of violent crime, in which the only ones with guns are the criminals! :banghead:
From PBS Newshour (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/features/july-dec07/gunlaw_9-12.html)
The 30-year-old law in question makes it illegal to posses [sic] a handgun inside the city but allows citizens to own shotguns or rifles. Most of the shootings in the city are committed with handguns.
The irony of that statement is clear to anyone reading THR. Are we the only ones who appreciate it?

So far it would seem so. Let us hope that the Supreme Court justices recognize the irony too. I believe that they will. If so perhaps they will get one of their clerks to explain it to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, very slowly of course and spelling out the hard words.

If Heller wins w/o the SC addressing the issue of the long arms having to be disassembled while in a DC home, DC will likely pass a law making it mandatory that handguns be disassembled or locked up while in the home.

I'm not surprised MSNBC got it wrong. Heller isn't on the list of USSC cases that have been granted cert (http://www.supremecourtus.gov/orders/07grantednotedlist.html)... yet.

They do not need to. The disassembled, locked up provision already applies to handguns:
§ 7-2507.02 Firearms required to be unloaded and disassembled or locked
Except for law enforcement personnel described in § 7-2502.01(b)(1), each registrant shall keep any firearm in his possession unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock or similar device unless such firearm is kept at his place of business, or while being used for lawful recreational purposes within the District of Columbia.

Then Washington, D.C., must be a very safe place indeed. It's good to see laws that work to benefit the people. The media should be proud to support those laws and, I hope, will take proper credit for what it's doing.
Perhaps each journalist should take the time to send a card or letter to everyone murdered or assaulted by a criminal in the District and do a little bragging. Everyone would understand.

If it hasn't been accepted for hearing, what's the point of this thread?
