I got a good deal on a Bushmaster m4a2. Being a lefty, what changes can I make to the rifle to make it fit my shooting left handed? Shell deflector? Anything else that would help? Thanks for your help!:)

you don't need anything. ar15 is very ergonomic for lefties. i'd leave it alone. i've probably shot 15-20k rounds left handed and not a single ejected case has ever hit me.

if you must use a 3-point sling, be careful not to cover the ejection port with the sling. i shoot with a 3-point sling and it's never happened to me, but I'm told it can cause a malf.

Stag makes true lefty AR stuff.
You could install your Bushy barrel, FSB, handguard etc parts in a Stag lefty receiver, Buy the lefty specific parts from Stag and have a true lefty AR.

Sell off the Bushy receiver and righty parts to recover some money.

I think? you would need a lefty receiver, BCG, ambi-safety and the ejection port parts.

Just a thought

Update, maybe sell your Bushy upper and use the proceeds to buy a Stag lefty Upper.

If you don't want to do that Stag thing, add a Norgon ambidextrious magazine catch for about $80.00 and an ambidextrious safety lever for about $25.00

The built in deflector on the A2 uppers works well enough but you could add a detachable shell bag for about $30.00 too.

I shoot AR left handed as well. I haven't changed anything on mine. Ambi safety lever would be handy though. Never been hit with an ejected case.

The only truly necessary item is the case deflector. Anything else is optional.

applekev, I too am a southpaw and I too own a few ar-15s. I like the AR-15 BECAUSE IT IS PERFECTLY AMBIDEXTROUS OUT OF THE BOX.

I shoot from prone, bench and standing with my ar-15. I find absolutely no problem with shell casings or anything of that nature. I really don't even know what a shell deflector is, but if it's got the ability to put your brass in a neat pile, I'll take 3 of them, one for each AR I own. I have, however, shot a bull pup design ar-15 and found it to be horrible for lefties.

I'd be careful about shooting a bolt action rifle left handed, but the AR is perfect for lefties.

i do ok with the regular safety, but i will admit that the new ambi latch for the charging handle has piqued my interest. currently, i have it filed in "Doodads, More things to reduce reliability"

Never have a problem with my middy. I did order ambi mag catch and safety also.
