K-frame construction questions

What separates the internals and barrels of various K-frames (Or N-frames, for that matter)? For example, what really separates my Mdl. 15 and my Mdl. 66? I am assuming the cylinder is massively stronger on the 66 - is that really true? And are other elements really different, like barrel, any internal lock works, etc? Obviously, .22 and other calibers in the frame I can understand large differences, but I'm curious about the more similar calibers.
I'm curious as I've worked on my own Caspian 1911s a fair amount, and built one up from "white" components - so I like to know how my things work. I've never done any internal work on a revolver. I'm NOT tempted to open them and play about, so I'd like someone to educate me! Also, what is a good book for tuning and working on them if I were to decide to do that?
Thanks.

S&W says that the K-frame revolvers chambered for the .357 Magnum (Model 19 and Model 66) have a different steel and different heat treatment in the barrels and cylinders from those chambered for the .38 Special. I have not seen anything to indicate any other parts were changed.
Of course, the .38 Special cylinders are shorter, with more barrel inside the frame, a good reason not to fire .357 pressure/velocity loads (like .38 Special +P+) in those guns.
FWIW, there are plenty of reports that extended use of hot .357 loads in the Model 19 can lead to frame stretching; that would probably also apply to the Model 66.

From what I've read it does seem that the flame cutting is most pronounced with 125 grain loads that were the vogue for awhile. 158 grains (for which the revolver was designed) are said to be much less punishing on the top strap and forcing cone. For years I have shot 158 grains and haven't destroyed any .357 revolver yet, including K Frames.

I had a 2 1/2" 66 that went back to s & w after about 300 rounds of remington 125 gr. .357's. They replaced the bbl, & cylinder - no charge.

S&W has no more model 19 or 66 barrels left, so be aware that that option no longer exists.
