My son is shooting my 48 AL 20 guage, but is complaining about it kicking hard.
Is there a good pad to fit it or do I just need to get one and form fit it?

My guess is that you will probably have to grind one to fit it. Do it before your son develops a flinch. The AL-48s need all the help they can get (as far as recoil).

Buy the Limbsaver slip on pad.

If LOP is right, you'll have to remove the old buttpad before putting on a slip on limbsaver. They add about 3/4" to the length. But they sure do feel good when compared with the standard old hard rubber buttpad.:)

If you've got a store with a good selection of pre-made pads, then you can do what I do:
1) Remove the butt-pad or plate from the gun.
2) Carefully trace the outline of the end of the butt-stock onto a piece of paper.
3) Take the piece of paper to the store and carefully compare the outline to the pads they have in stock.
4) If you find a good fit, buy it. If not, then get a grind-to-fit... but make sure that whatever you get can be ground down enough to fit the stock outline.
My personal preference is away from slip-on pads, unless it's just a stop-gap measure to get someone close-enough for a lesson.

If any member does take off their buttplate, advise. I am in need of a 20 gauge Franchi 48 hard buttplate.

Picked up a limb saver today that fit perfect. Problem solved. Thanks for your help.
