I'm thinking of picking up an M48 8mm rifle. Prices are just too good for ammo and rifle.

Anybody have any experience with these?

Best rifle purchase I have ever made. Nuff said.

I have a few. These are robust and nicely made rifles and a great bargain. If you have a C&R license (if not, get one!), check out the auctions at www.auctionarms.com and www.gunbroker.com and do a search for "m48". There's lots of good deals there for a rifle and all the trappings, many under $180 for an excellent specimen.

good luck

Got an M-48A for cheap.
Great gun.
$90 for 1400 round case? (admittedly, 'tis corrosive stuff, but was on bandoleers and stripper clips ...) How can I pass that up?

What can I expect in the way of accuracy?

Are there any special cleaning measures to take with corrosive ammo?

After you shoot and get home dissassemble the Bolt. Fill up a bucket with really hot water with dish washing detergent. Throw the bolt parts in the bucket and let them soak while you clean the barrel. Put the barrel muzzel first into the buck with the water and use a patch or two from the breech. This will create a suction effect and bring the hot soapy water up the barrel. Use a few patches.

Take out the bolt pieces and wipe them down well.

Dry the gun off very very well and then clean and lube as normal with hoppes and breakfree or whatever floats your boat.

This takes a lot less time then it sounds. This will let you shoot the nastiest corrosive stuff out there without a care in the world. I have shot nothing but corrosive and my Mauser looks brand new and the barel gleams on the inside.

You must do this immediately upon getting back from shooting. Even four or five hours will make a difference. Rust forms extremely fast with corrosive ammo.

With the above method it is quick, easy, cheap, and my mauser usually smells apple fresh.
