A rattlesnake and a jack rabbit fall victim to my Makarov

Not sure if this belongs in the hunting forum or here. I usuall post here so this is where I put it.
Went out to the West Desert here in Utah last night to shoot our AKs. I took the Mak along as my CCW. We found a computer monitor that someone had left there, so we decided it needed a few more holes in it. We sent my buddy over to move it to a more strategic spot. When he reached down to move it, there was a 3 foot rattlesnake right at his feet. He slowly backed away, as I pulled out the Mak and blasted it. It cut it nearly in half. A big rock to the head finished it off.
About a half and hour later as I was feeling pretty good about the Mak for hunting and varmint control, a jack rabbit came by at approx 25 to 30 yards. I quickly drew the Mak, let out a whistle to make it stop for a second and fired. The Mak took care of the rabbit no problem.

I never thought about using a Mak on a snake before...
What kind of ammo were you using?

Barnaul FMJ. I would have preferred HP's but I did not have any.

12voltman,
Is you Makarov a 380? Can you tell me about the safety features of the gun?
Thank you

Wow, good thing you got that snake! No telling what it could have done if it had been left alone. How was the rabbit? Tasty?

Good shooting!!!
I was beginning to wonder when you hairy-chested Westerners were going to do the right thing and start killing critters, instead of posting bleating threads about bears or unicorns or whatever. Shoot them all.:D

Well, shooting a rattlesnake is ok, but why shoot the bunny?

I don't think shooting a rattlesnake is ok, unless it's in my house. In this case, you were in his house.

Shoot the rabbit if you're gonna eat it, but leave the poor snakies alone.
They have enough problems as it is.

If youda left the snake alone, it prolly would've killed the rabbit for you. ;)

Lemme get this straight K?
You shot and killed a running jackrabbit at thirty yards with a Mak using 380 hardball?
Right between the running lights no doubt, chuckle.

Tree Huggers!!! Time to renew your PETA memberships. LOL.
Snakes and Jack Rabbits are considered varmints where I come from. You can shoot all the Jack Rabbits you want. You cannot shoot cotton tails. They are considered upland game and there is a season for those.
Yes I did hit the Jack Rabbit at 25 or 30 yards or so with the Makarov. It was not running. I have 3 witnesses.
It was 9x18, not 380.

You used the .380 Magnum (9x18) which we all know is the ultimate bunny buster being a larger bore and longer case than the anemic 9mm Kurz!!
I's just yankin yer chain buddy!
Tree huggers on a gun site, who'da thunk such an atrocity was possible?

Good shooting.
I've used a Keltec P-11 on groundhogs...it's the offical groundhog killing machine ya know.:p
Hey its bad enough we have viruii, and worms infecting our computers...darn right that rattler was fair game...caught in the act of infecting and all. Bunny shooting is always fair game...who knows our Aussie Friends may need our help with 'roos...practice...aim small shoot small...ya never know. :D

I'd have shot the snake twice.
Did you cut some notches in the grip of the mak for the two kills? ;)

Speaking of atrocities, THR must have no rules concerning handles if it is allowing a member to name one's self after a semi-obscure 19th century murderer.:scrutiny:
I guess we can only wait for "Charles Starkweather," "Mr. Berkowitz," or other sociopath inspired handles like "John D. Lee," to show up here?

Porter hit a raw nerve there?
Hardly. Just as a student of American frontier history I wonder aloud what would motivate one to use the name of a cold-blooded murderer as his handle.
Is there no doubt the Rockwell name died out years ago?
The name, and the reputation and deeds behind it, have only died out if no one knows the import of the name, no? The idolization of such a man is rather sick, IMO.:barf:
Maybe someone will sign on as Torquemada someday.

Porter Rockwell is controversial (http://www.onlineutah.com/historyrockwell.shtml), to say the least.
How 'bout you take your grudges to PM or email? :scrutiny:

Ritualized murder through ordeal is the same in effect as any ritualized murder by revolver. The only difference is one of degree.
