Can't find a stock, in my budget

I can't find a descent priced stock for a bubba'd rifle I bought at an online auction (wont do that again). So now I have a project rifle. The aim of this is to see if I can put a 6.5mm barrel assembly on a 7mm stock as they are generally pretty close and I found one at a gun show at a descent price. Now would you guys rather start with a blank or a close enough stock? I can always fill in the gaps with fiberglass and epoxy, that is my current plan. Is there something better? Would you fill in the stock and cut it to the rifling assembly?

Are we talking about 93 - 95 Mausers, or what?

Anyway, if you find something close to fitting, I'd probably just hog out the wood that was in the way and glass-bed it full length.

If a military stock was not important, I'd get a semi-inletted sporter blank and go from there.

RC No it's a Jap 6.5mm 38 reciever, 44 barrel, and bubba'd 44 stock. I got a Rem 700 tapered 7mm stock to put it on to at least make it something descent to keep maybe fire once or twice as ammo is around $1.25/ shell. :what: So I was thinking of making the two a fitted pair like they used to do at the factory before they forgot about smiths. :banghead:

OH!

The 6.5 / 7mm had me thinking old Mausers for some odd reason!

Never in a million years would I have guessed 6.5 JAP & 7mm Mag 700 Remington!

Sounds like glass is your only recourse to me.

You may find that 700 stock is worth as much or more than the Type 38. This guy has commercial stocks for Japanese rifles. $100. He's not Gunparts/Numrich.
