Browning Challenge Opinions?

I'm looking for a lightweight, accurate 22 autoloader pistol that resembles the one I didn't buy years ago, the Colt Woodsman. The Browning Challenge might fit the bill, but I've been unable to find any really good tests or reviews of it.

Does anyone here have an opinion on it or links to reviews?

Can you get one-inch groups at 25 yards?

I've shot one extensively and seen a few others at gun shops and shows.

It's a nice pistol with little recoil. It is reliable if you avoid "gummy" .22LR ammo. If the trigger is poor from the box, a trigger job will make it excellent.

New shooters have no problem with it.

I don't have any bench-rest accuracy data, however.

I've had 2 Buckmarks---count em 2!!!----they were both worthless junk---not even worth the scrap aluminium they used to make them with.

Get yourself a Ruger and don't look back.

Needless to say I'll NEVER buy another BuckTrash---I've already been burned twice.

Are we talking about the Buck Mark Challenge:

I'm quite certain the OBG's experience is an anomaly.:o

I've had Buck's before as well as several Rugers. I'll buy another Buck before the Ruger, though that's no dig against them. I just prefer the Browning. In fact, the Challenge you speak of is the one I most want. The last street price I saw a few mos. ago was $313, but I had designs on another gun at that time. They are readily capable of one-inch with their preferred loads, as are Ruger's and Smiths, for that matter.

Okay, thanks. I may be trying to talk myself out of the Sig Trailside by looking at the Challenge.

You can still find Colt Woodsman pistols at the auction sites. I haven't found the exact right one at a bargain price, but then, I'm more of a High Standard fancier. If you really want a Woodsman, maybe you should get a Woodsman.

Just look around and you can find a few nice Browning Challengers. I once had a Challenger II that was a mghty fine pistol. I wouldn't get one that was newer than that model. People seem to realy like the Buckmark, but IMO they are not up to the abilities of the older Challenger series.

Here's an example:

The older Challenger pistols are fine pieces, but they aren't very lightweight at 35 - 38 ounces.
