is there anything keeping me from putting a 4x32 bushnell banner dusk and dawn "shotgun" scope on a 30/30? I assume (excluding .22 scopes) that a scope is a scope as far as what type of gun you mount it on. (within reason, obviously you won't put a 12x 50mm sniper scope on a slug gun or something.)

No reason not to. In fact, the shotgun scope may actually be more resistant to recoil than the average rifle scope. A 3 1/2" slug can kick worse than an elephant rifle. At least I've shot a CZ .458 Lott that kicked less than the 3 1/2" Bennelli I shot with buckshot...

The only difference between a shotgun scope and a rifle scope is the parallax setting. Scopes sold as "shotgun" scopes are set at the factory to be parallax free between 50 to 75 yards, depending on the brand. Rifle scopes are set to be parallax free at 100-150 yards. If you plan to do most of your shooting at 50-75 yards, then a shotgun scope is the way to go. If you plan to shoot mostly at longer ranges, then a rifle scope would be preferable.

Some of my rifles are set up with a 3x9 in Quick Detach mounts with a low power scope set up in the same mounts as back up for close hunting.
The scope I mostly use for that is the eupold 1x to 4x with the Heavy Duplex, this reticle is easy to see even in very low light and when set at the 1x is ideal for getting after bear or hog after they are wounded and go into the tickets.

Adiitionally a third spare scope is carried in expensive hunts.
