Edit: Wait, were you asking for ammo or a firearm?

Charter Arms makes a less expensive version of the S&W J-Frame in .44 Special.

I have their .38 Undercover and it works just fine with never a miss. YMMV.

It's one of the few cartridges I reload for.

Cheap and .44 Special don't seem to be able to co-exist in the same sentence.

Bazooka Joe, have you shot any of that ammo you linked?

I'd sure be happy to find some bargain 'Specials.....

MagTech makes some Cowboy Action loads that are reasonably priced.

Sorry, I meant ammo. Should've specified.

I love the caliber, but hate the cost. That's why I've got a quick change set up for it on my 550.

+1 on reloading.

Buying a .44 spl revolver turned reloading into something that I wanted to do eventually, to something I had to do (at least if I wanted to shoot my revolver much) Around here when you can find .44 spl ammo, its pretty mundane ultramax cowboy loads that run about $24/50. I reload for just under $5/50.

I guess I'd better hold off until I can afford to get setup to reload.

Do you mean ammo, the gun, or a really attractive middle-aged woman?

Try Wisconsin Cartridge

For self-defense loads (I carry a SW 696), Georgia Arms has a nice 200gr Gold Dot. $22.50/50 a batch. I'm fortunate to work at a range that has a reloading company on contract, so I get the practice stuff from them.
