Once I got it to feed by finding an old dusty two-tone mag and did some heavy polish work on the 'feed zone' she actually fired all of her first 7 round mag w/o problems!

It has taken a few days of 'fitting'...........file, sand, drill, polish......*.......alot of listining to my gunsmith as I knew nothing about 1911s................but my G.I. project gun is ready to eat some ammo tommorow. (alot)

I used a Essex slide on a SAM RP 1911A1 reciever. It actually is not a 1911A1 because of the goofy undercut behind the trigger guard and under the mag release but that's no biggie. It is actually closest feature wise to a pre 1927 model. The Essex slide has diagonal grip serrations which also screws a few things up but I don't care!! I've got a fare share of tool marks and scratches to hit with the blue pin. About $320 invested in parts.

This was my 'learning' pistol and will now be my full time truck gun and range beater. My next project will be a matte stainless hi-speed 1911 w/ all the gizmos.

Well I've got a 600 round tin of ball Winchester from J&G to play with (not corrosiive as advertised btw) and I'll keep y'all posted this P7 snob's foray into the 1911 world.

Very cool project! Sounds like you learned alot & you're ready for more. Just a bit of advice...before you make it your truck gun, feed her 500-1000 rounds to make sure she's reliable.
Good luck in your future projects!
