Just purchased a single shot 12 gauge NEF with a modified choke as my first shotgun for a great deal ($50). I bought it with the intention of using it as a deer gun.
Well after getting some rifled slugs (Winchester, and Federal) and "attempting" to get them downrange, it kicked my butt. I actually developed a flinch trying to shoot those slugs downrange, and I shoot some high power rifle (.30/06, .308). Needless to say with a flinch in place my group of 10 shots looked like a spread pattern from shot shell. This won't do for accuracy I need for taking a deer.
After doing some more research I found out about the barrel exchange program from H&R, so I could get a 20 gauge Ultra Slug Hunter (Heavy barrel) rifled barrel for about $100.
How much less would the recoil be with the 20 gauge Heavy Barrel USH versus the standard 12 gauge modified choke I have? Is it worth doing?
