Question on High Standard 1200 semi-auto shotgun

I have one that works great except I cut myself if I am not extremely careful when loading it. I have knives duller than the front of the lifter. I cannot find a replacement lifter but it probably would be the same. Do you have any suggestions. I was thinking of dipping it in some of the rubber they use for tool handles but I was afraid that would cause it not to feed.

They are out of them. I don't think that the a replacement will be any better.
