Earlier this year, at Boljoon (pronounced "Ball-ho-onn") parish church,
the Nuestra Seņora Virgen del Patrocinio, on the island of Cebu,
in the Philippines, an archaeological dig yielded interesting blades.
Here's one of them:

This sundang was found buried with an adult male, clasped with both hands
at the hilt, so that the grip covered the lower part of the corpse's face.
Chinese ceramic, found covering the upper face, has been dated to mid
16th century. Based on this and other evidence, National Museum
archaeologists tentatively put the burial as having taken place between the
disastrous Magalhaes (Magellan) expedition in 1521, and successful Spanish
colonization under Legazpi from 1565.
