*Sigh…*

I’ve been wanting to get a 1911 for concealed carry for almost two years now. Uncle Sam is gonna pay up big this year (come on Bush Tax cut!) and I’ve decided that now would be a good time to get the gun of my dreams.

I know I want a 1911, I know I want the 4’’ barrel, and I know I want the smallest grip I can manage. I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to the Kimber CDP, mainly because the Series II safety problem doesn’t scare me (I can remove it) and MIM parts are the same.

However, as I was flipping through the Wilson catalogue, I took a closer look at the KZ-45 Compact. The price isn’t out of there, especially for Wilson, and I like the idea of having extra ammo. My thought are:

Cons:

1. I have yet to discover a polymer grip I like. Anyone who has one care to compare the “feel” of a Wilson to a standard 1911?
2. It doesn’t take standard magazines; my wife (who has a Kimber Ultra) and I can’t switch.
3. Costs more
4. Polymer frame feel. This is a big concern; A gun has to feel right for me.
5. I can’t tweak; I like to fiddle, and was sort of looking forward to playing with the internals.
6. Larger size
7. It doesn’t look quite as nice with those polymer grips

Pros:

1. Wilson has no quality issues; I’ve never heard a bad thing and their service policy is awesome.
2. The external extractor solves a weakness (IMHO) in the 1911 design.
3. Extra ammo
4. It comes perfect the first time.
5. Better sights
6. It’s all black :D
7. More accurate?
8. Probably going to be far more reliable; I think I would trust a Wilson out of the box far more than I would a Kimber. As a Beretta user, I have some well-grounded, deep-rooted fears that all 1911s are jam-o-matics. :D

I’m tearing my hair out. Someone want to throw some advice my way??

I've got an Ultra CDP and a full-size KZ45.

Get the Wilson. Better quality. The Kimber's been back to the smith 3 times. All those MIM parts are loose and rattle on mine, don't know if your wife's is the same.

Never had a problem with the Wilson, even when totally dirty from outside dirt & grime, it still worked.

You will have to get used to the bigger grip though.

How "bigger?" Longer, as in full-length, or longer around? I was under the impression that the compact grip was the same height as a officer's...?

Thanks!
