I live in an apartment complex, so when FexEx or UPS comes and I'm at work, they drop off packages at the leasing office. The person in the office signs for them.

Will this work for receiving a handgun back from a smith, or must I be the one to sign?

I just know Fed-Ex from S/W comes "Adult Signature required". Never had a problem having them delivered to my office when I'm not there and clerical signing for them.

I'd expect pretty much the same deal applies in your situation...

Most of the time UPS just drops the package and runs regardless of what it is

I would think that if nobody was able to sign for it they would leave one of those "we tried to deliver" slips for you and you could go down to the shipper's office and pick it up.
