Trade Even ?

A friend has a minty military1903 Springfield. Thats all he knows (he is honest) and I asked him what he wanted for trade. He won't accept money so I offered my minty Remington 541S which I feel is more than generous. However he asked did I have a .44 magnum, I have a real nice S&W 629, I thought about it for 5 seconds and agreed to trade. I suspect his '03 is worth $350 on up depending on all the various "collector" items we don't know about. This is a matter of honor with me, when I take it and if it turns out to be just a parts gun I'm assuming it will be worth around $300 and I won't get burnt too bad. But maybe I hit the JackPot and its a minty Remington 03A3 or such and worth say $600. Do I just let the matter lie or offer him the difference in value?

It sounds like he is more interested in the gun than the value. You offered him a good deal the first time. If he seems happy with the trade, I'd let it lie and not feel guilty.

If he asked you for it, it's on his head...you're not trying to rip him off.
When I trade, the only thing of relevance is what I think something's worth, not the cash price som gun rag says it has. Same thing when I buy something. If it's too expensive, I won't buy it - if I think it's worth it I will. If I see it for 20 bucks less later, it doesn't bother me, to me it was worth 20 bucks more with no hard feelings.
