Broke a case in a die

Well I figured it would happen sooner or later. I was working through a mess of 223 cases and lubed up a box of them with One shot and every so often one would be tight but it was not a big deal other than vibrating everything off my bench. At any rate one was a little too tight and the head broke off the case and the thing is still stuck on my Hornady die.
Sure thought I had enough lube sprayed on that box of shells. Guess not! I never had that problem if I lubed each on manually but when you have a box of 300...
I seem to remember someone making a shell extractor or I can send it in and have it pulled but I would rather do it myself. Any advice?

RCBS makes and sells a Stuck Case Remover, but you can make one yourself. You'll have to remove the die from the press, and then unscrew the decapping rod. When the expander gets stuck in the neck, try to unscrew the rod from the expander button, which will remain in the case. Turn the die over so the base of the case is up and if you have a drill press, drill the appropriate hole that can be tapped to accept a 1/4-20 bolt. After you've threaded the hole, use a nut that's big enough for the .223 case to slip through, but that will rest on the base of the die, and put a washer on the 1/4-20 bolt. Screw the bolt into the hole you've threaded, and through the larger nut, until the washer is resting against the nut, and the nut is resting against the base of the die. Use a wrench to tighten the bolt, which will pull the case from the die, using the nut to push against.
Hope this makes sense and helps.

One-Shot is a marginal case lube, mostly just convenient. I use it only for MY .223 brass shot in MY rifle. Range pickups get heavy lube off a roll pad or Imperial wax. THEY don't stick.

Read somewhere One Shot was the amount of cases one could size before one stuck. Don`t know that it is true I`ve never used it, but have always shied from spray lubes. Imperial wax or my old favorite RCBS with a pad have never yet let me down. Knock on wood...:)

Thanks for the idea, I basically made a shell extractor and got it out.
I second that one shot as marginal....had been using the lee lube but it is just slow. I am going to try the pad next.

This is exactly what I do. I have never bought a kit.

Does this case sticking thing happen mostly with rifle calibers ? It seems everytime I hear about a stuck case on this forum it involves oneshot ?

I stuck two differen cases in two sizing dies in .223 using Hornady One shot, and following the directions. Its the only time I have ever had this problem.
I fixed this problem by Getting rid of my caan of Hornady One ****, and using Lee sizing wax or imperial sizing wax.
Someone will be along shortly to tell you that the problem is YOU and that ON**** is great stuff.
This same I stuck/broke a case off in a die thread comes up every 2 weeks and damn but every time the person used one ****.
Hornady One shot is CRAP.

With One-Shot, Place the brass in a zip-loc bag, spray liberally. stir, let dry a minute or two, save and reuse the bag. I have done thousands of cases from handgun to larger bottle neck rifle like this. I stopped lubing one case's at a time years ago, takes to much unnecessary time.

Pfft, I did two in one week using One Shot!

I've moved onto the greener pastures of Imperial Wax. It doesn't seem much slower since I still have to manually pick up each case and put in the shell holder. Maybe an extra second per case to twirl it in my fingers.
