I have a Ruger Mk II target model I bought new in about 1985. Since I've owned it, the pin at the front of the rear sight begins creeping out to the right after a few magazines.

I have to punch it back in (light pressure from a blunt object does the trick) two or three times in a day of shooting.

Anyone else have this problem?

Any ideas on how to stop this?

Take the pin all the way out and clean off the oil then put some Lock Tite on it. If that doesn't work, take the pin out and mar it in some way so as to increase the diameter. Some people will tap it with a hammer to make the pin slightly oval and some will gouge it with a sharp object like a pair of wire cutters.

I have not heard of the front sight pin comming loose but the rear sight pin on my 22/45 used to drift out a little after several hundred rounds. It had a lot of oil in there and after several times of it comming out and cleaning the oil off, it just stopped drifting out on it's own.

I had the front sight on my Ruger work itself loose ALL the time. Lock tite did the trick!

If you have the target model, you have the adjustable sight. The pin in front of the rear sight is the pivot for the leaf of the sight so don't locktite it. Mine also liked to work itself out. I staked it. Hit the edge of the hole with a small center punch to make a small mark. You don't have to hit it too hard. It will keep the pin in. Mine used to come out the left side when looking from the back so I only staked that side.

What Kruzer said, but I flattened the pin's end by tapping with a hammer and punch instead.

I've had my KMK512 for over 20 years, and that pin always seemed to wiggle loose. I shot 220 rounds last weekend, and you all reminded me that it hadn't worked loose this time.

A self-healing firearm! I like that. :p More than likely, the lube finally dried out.
