How many guns have you bought as a result of something you saw on TV or the movies?

Did James Bond, Dirty Harry or Sonny Crocket influence any of your handgun purchases?
Me? Well the idea of Bond's Walther is appealing, but I haven't bought one yet, somy answer is NO.

I'm almost ashamed to admit this, I'm to old to be doing this kind of stuff, but.........
About 15 years ago I was "between" Colt Pythons. I was sitting on the couch doing some paper work and had the TV on for noise.

What comes on, but Dirty Harry in "Magnum Force". I happened to look up just at the moment of the movie when the bike cop shoots the lemo full of bad guys and lawyers with the 4" blue Python.

I suddenly remembered I didn't own a Python at that time.
Next day I went out and bought a new 4" blued one.

What I'm really ashamed of.....that night I rented "Magnum Force" and watched it as I cleaned the new Python up. You have to admit, the pimp in the pink Caddy was certainly impressed by Colt's best.

I haven't been without a 4" Python since, although they're stainless steel these days.

To make dfarriswheel feel better ( you'll owe me for this dfarris) ;)

Hop-a-Long Cassidy, Lone Ranger, Rifleman...influenced me HAVING to have certain cap guns. A certain brat was asked to NOT bring his revolver to Sunday School at age 3/4. Six years old and I tote a lever action cap rifle to the zoo. Yea that brat was me .:o

Combat series added the military stuff, of course by 6 I had actually fired a Singer made GM .45 ACP.

Why do you think I've a model 94 'thutty thutty' since ...um...long time.
My first centerfire handgun was a 1911, bought in '73

James Bond ,not guns...but my oil slick didn't work as well as his. Of course mine was discarded motor oil in a balloon (oil balloon) tossed from the back of the family station wagon at 40 mph.

I didn't get caught, and my parents still don't know about that little experiment.

The CBS Evening News back in 1994 influenced my purchase of several Glock hicap magazines, a Colt HBAR, and a Maadi AKM :D

Still can't get that Beretta 93R from Robocop. "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" - Alex Murphy.

I see them on screen, and if I like them I look for one and check it out.

Considering I have been watching movies for a long time and not able to buy guns then, I am still not done checking them all out!

I like the Beretta mainly because of Chow Yun Fat stuff, but have yet to get a matching pair...

Well, when Miami Vice was on I really wanted to get a S&W 645. The movie "Year of the Dragon" a Desert Eagle. Starsky and Hutch reruns a S&W Model 59.

But by the time I was old enough to buy guns I started looking past movies for my choices. This was my life I was talking about!!! They still continue to influence me in some ways I'll admit. And I will admit to once getting a Beretta 92FS solely because of the movies "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon". I thought Berettas were the only handguns capable of shooting that fast. I'm not saying its a bad gun in anyway. It is a great handgun. But admiting the reason I got it is as embarrasing as admitting to wearing a Members Only jacket. Which was a fake one to boot. (jacket not the gun) ;)

But I will say this, the whole reason I want to get a genuine Colt SAA is due to watching Westerns. Someday........

I don't let movies or television make my decisions;
I reserve that opinion for me, myself, and I!:D  :uhoh:

When I was young and impressionable, I may have purchased a Beretta 92F or two because of constant use of it by the good guys in 1980s action flicks.

That's right, Lethal Weapon and Die Hard are to blame. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it...

Whe I was around 20, Starsky and Hutch made me vacilate between a python and hi capacity 9...but I was smart enough even back then, that even though I opted for the 9, I went for a Browning Hi Power over a smith 59....TV can only do so much....

Every single person out there. When I sold guns, a boatload of M9s, Glock 7s, and long-barrelled revolvers (just like the Joker had) went out the door thanks to movies.

Don't remember any movies with 1911s, so I have to answer zero. Of course, I believe I'm the only person that can say that.:)

From watching documentaries on special forces, SEALS, LEO/Counter Terrorist groups and a whole bunch of movies.

The Heckler & Kock MP5SD.

The premier subgun is just too cool to not have one. :)

For a 51 yr. old, childhood saturday westerns = Colt SAA. I finally bought one 2-3 yrs ago; beautiful gun, shot to point of aim, and was accurate. But, I finally came to the conclusion that I'm a DA guy, just don't like the grip shape for centerfires. Sold it, bought a couple of nice S&W's.

SAA style and lever action style were the norm for b/w TV viewing back... then.

In real life the lever action was "just" what one had, everybody did, as evidenced by the gun racks.;)

One of two handguns we had at home was a GM .45, then I shot one at 6 -been hooked ever since. Really disapointed nobody shared my enthusiasm-really drove my parents nuts to find a cap gun in 1911 style.

I'm really surprised no one else's childhood cap guns, were influenced by TV.

ZERO is my answer in real life...I was an outcast during the 'wondernine' years. My interest for K frames came from reading the history of the M&P -and the trigger.

I guess I was destined to be a curmudgeon after all. :D

Not as yet, but sometimes I do get the urge when I watch certain shows...

Westerns--Colt SAA, Remington 1875, Winchester '73.

Dirty Harry--S&W 29

Raiders of the Lost Ark---S&W 1917, MP-38/40

Spenser For Hire--Beretta 92, S&W 629 6"bbl.

Saving Private Ryan--1911, Garand, Springfield '03A3 Sniper.

James Bond---Walther PPK

I only have the 1911 right now, but I hope to improve that soon...

Movies? Nope.

But I can say some literature pointed me to the Colt 1917 New Service Army. Most notably "The Big Sleep" (Phillip Marlowe carried one in a hidden compartment in his car), "Fire On The Mountain" (Matewan Chief of Police Sid Hatfield carried TWO) and an old issue of gun digest which showed how to convert the SW 1917 to 45 LC, something which would have been a lot easier on the Colt.

Band of Brothers made me want a Garand so I went and got one. No media influenced handguns--yet. Closest I came there was wanting a long-barreled .357 Magnum watching Avery Brooks play "Hawk" on Spenser For Hire. Hawk and that handgun were bad juju for the perps when he went into action.

I bought far more guns as a result of these damn Internet forums.

The Internet is good for many things, but certainly not my pocketbook.

When I was a kid, I watched every episode of "The Untouchables" on any channel (did so until they stopped re-running the series, actually). Of course, I had to have a full-auto Thompson.

Watching "The Unforgiven" gave me the urge to buy a cowboy gun: a Colt SAA.

Watching the first "Terminator" movie made me want to buy a Spas 12 shotgun.

Only the Spas was a disappointment.

Uhm...yes.

Bladerunner. COP 357 derinnger... come on, you remember it right? With the four barrels? In the beginning of the movie when Leon is being interogated and then stands up and shoots the investigator through the wall?

Ok maybe it's just me.

Oh yeah and it was just in Matrix Reloaded also. Monica Belucci in the rubber dress?

I give up.

None. I am not above that sort of thing but I just tend to buy based on what comes along at a good price that I want.

I have wanted some guns based on movies or T.V. shows but I didn't run out and buy them. I wanted a H&K P7 after I saw Die Hard because I thought that gun looked cool but when I saw the price. :what: :what: :what:

Oh yeah, and back in the mid 1980's I bought a original FAL 'cause I thought they looked cool in Soldier of Fortune magazine...

Fresh out of high school, I remember reading articles on the British in (then) Rhodesia; black and white photos of SAS troops in big floppy hats, shorts, sandals and FALs. Well… I had the floppy hat, the shorts and the sandals, I just had to get that FAL. One of the better decisions made in my teens.
