i have decided my newest purchase is going to be a s&w pistol. i really want a blued pistol, 6 shot, adj. sights, k or l frame, preferably with a full underbarrel lug. i like the mod 27 and 28, but really want that full underlug. essentialy a 686 only blued. did s&w make anything like this or am i just fantasizing? any help is appreciated.

You cannot go wrong with a S&W revolver.
My current favorite is a 6" Model 28 - tough, ugly and a joy to shoot.

They call it a 586. Probably discontinued because it is easier to just grind out a stainless gun than to polish and blue. But there are a fair number out there and you should be able to find one.

Yes, a S&W 586 most likely would fill the bill. Good guns, but hard to find.
I have a 6" S&W 686-5 in .357 magnum, that I dearly love; as its my long
range revolver, capeable of winning many cases of beer~!
And, I don't even drink~! :uhoh:

As stated before, you want a 586. This is the blued (can also be had in nickel) carbon steel version of the 686. S&W still makes them sporadically, but you will have better luck finding a used one.

I have been leaning towards a similar purchase myself and found a model 586 close to home a couple of days ago for $399. It's in pretty good shape but doesn't have the original grips. They were replaced with a set of Monogrips. Now I just have to "pull the trigger" so to speak.

I used to work for an armored car company, and when I decided to purchase my own service weapon, I knew it was going to be a .357.
It came down to two. Either a Ruger GP-100 or a Smith and Wesson Model 586.
I carried that 586 for five years. I practiced with it a lot. By my best guess, I must have put at least 5000 rounds through it. It was always a great shooter.
I highly recommend this type. I loved it.
Incidentally, I recently bought my girlfriend a Smith and Wesson Model 28 for her birthday, with a 4" barrel.
When you really get down to it, a Smith and Wesson revolver in your holster tends to keep everyone else's guns in theirs.

Usually 10-20 of them on Gunbroker as well.
