gunsmith

the lever that holds the slide open after the last round shoots is broken for the 2nd time this year. the last time a gunshow was going on and the guys at glock doc .com were there...
is this typical? the little lever does seem fragile.or is something wrong with my slide?
where in the bay area is a reasonable (er) gunsmith?
despite my handle I know nothing about fixing guns,I need to fix it quick as
while the gun still shoots.i need it at work and it has to work 100 %
as I may have to use it .

The slide stop on a glock ws designed so that the weapon will work with it broken, my G30 and G23 both have had this at one point or another.
As far as a gunsmith, you can try to find a local GSSF shooting match local to you, there is usually an armorer (sp) there who will upgrade/inspect/repair pistols for free except for cost of parts.
As far as that goes, if you go to this page: http://glockmeister.com/catalog/default.php/cPath/10_17/sort/2a/page/2
Glockmeister can get the part for you and if you look on the site, you can find directions for how to completely assemble/disassemble the weapon without having to be a JUJU Mall Ninja Death Warrior.
Good Luck, Hope this helps.

"the lever that holds the slide open after the last round shoots is broken for the 2nd time this year".
What!? That can't be! I was told that Glocks were perfect! You must be lying!:D

Are you sure you had it assembled correctly? There's not a whole lot of force being applied to that part, so I can't see why it'd "break"; did the spring come off of it, or did the slide-stop itself break?

Relax...at least it's a Glock! Finding parts & replacing it shouldn't be a big deal. I'd bet an armorer would have what you're looking for in stock & it shouldn't take but a couple of minutes work.

I had the protrusion that engages the follower break off on one of my Glocks. You don't have to disassemble the pistol to replace the slide stop lever. Just remove the slide and push the trigger pin from left-to-right, while jiggling the slide stop lever front-to-back. Only push the pin in enough to clear the slide stop lever. Slide the new part in; jiggle it front-to-back, and push the pin back in, right-to-left. Takes a lot less time to do the fix than it did for me to write this.

If you have problems finding an armorer, I think they have GSSF matches at Richmond & someone there should be able to help you out. If not, email me in Sacramento.

If you are in the San Jose area, or venture down here once in a while, I'd be happy to put in a new slide stop lever at my cost ($4 for the part, which I have on hand), and can also show you how it is properly installed. If not installed correctly, its attached spring can be overly stressed, and can thus more easily break. I have seen these springs break when the part is not installed correctly. BTW, I am a certified Glock armorer.

gunsmith,
I have to ride ya a little since your handle is "gunsmith" and you are worried about the little 'lever thing' on your Glock.
Seems like you shoot a lot, if you can break two in one year.
If you really dont want to install yourself,
How about taking it to your range (Jackson Arms in SSF?) and asking them to pop a new slide-stop on for you? Someone there should be able to recommend a local smith nearabouts.
Personally, I'd take Ken Lunde up on his offer, but it's a might long drive.

If you can't follow insructions well enough to replace a Glock's slide stop lever, you probably have to ask advice about what to do when you're outside and it starts to rain! We're talking about a 15-sec. "job" here!
