The fellow running the place is a straight shooter. He'll tell you if the guns are good ones.
Also, Dixie Gun Works is s good place to look.

Thanks for the helpful post.
Now, just where might these fine local places be that sell finished guns for less than kits?
Or is it a secret?

Start with sportsman's warehouse. And you can generally order Lyman kits from Walmart. LAst time I checked a Lyman GPR kit was $269.

Dixie Gun Works, Union City, Tennessee. Been around for years! A Flintlock pistol kit is a little more difficult to find than the caplock models. Dixie has a nice selection from simple (rustic) to fancy (dueling). I've always wanted to build a cased set of dueling pistols. I've just got ONE more round of college tuition for my youngest son and then maybe...

Question: I noticed Track of the Wolf had a .32 caliber kentucky pistol barrel for sale.
Can build one pistol and switch out .32 caliber and .50 caliber barrels?
Thanks

How would I go about ordering one from Wal-Mart?
Go up to the sporting goods counter and ask to see their catalog of guns you can order. Find what you want and ask them to place an order. You have to go to lay-away and stuff for the order, but otherwise it is pretty straight foreward. I ordered a rimfire rifle from Wally World once. For some reason, it never generated an order, so when I went back a week later to check on it, they had to special order one for the store display to sell to me. Well, two days later when I checked back, they said there was a problem. The bolt handle had torn a hole in the side of the box and gotten scratched up some. Imagine my disappointment when they told me they would give it to me for 20% off, considering the problems I had already gone through trying to order it. The moral is: I will do business with this Walmart anytime I can't afford what my local gun dealer is asking for a gun. Of course, since it is not federally classified as a firearm, this may be a slightly different process.
