Homak Cabinet Shelf Question

I was given a used Homak double-sided gun cabinet which didn't have any of the shelves installed. I'm trying to install the shelves on the left side, but I can't get the damn things in. Does anyone have one of these? Do the shelves just fit into the tabs there or is there another trick I'm not getting?
Also, has anyone found any good solutions for shelving on the other side (the gun side) of this or similar cabinets? I was just going to make shelves using 2x4s and plywood, but if there is a better suggestion, I'm all ears.
I'm mainly going to use this for storing ammo, mags, and the like.

While I can't help you in regards to the left side shelves, I have given "additional shelving" in a gun cabinet some thought.
At most hardware stores, they sell rails for mounting modular shelves on walls, generally, you buy the rail, buy either shelf brackets or tabs that go into the notches on the rails, and then your shelf material.
What I considered doing was mounting 2 rails per side of the cabinet, and pop riveting them in place, then adding the tab type brackets, and installing plywood shelves.
just my $.02

Thanks for the idea, shouldifail. I know the type of rails you're talking about. I'll look into it and see what I can find.

I added rails to my little homaks, but bolted them in instead of riveting them. It worked pretty well.
As far as getting that shelf in, a pic might help.
