HK53 in 5.56x45? Or AK74SU? I really don't know, but those are my guesses. First guess is HK53. Second guess is the AK74SU only because it is Russia.

I'm going with AK.
The magazine looks too large to be 5.56mm.

for a .223 diameter projectile. The .220 Russian round would loose a good deal of velocity out of that short a barrel. I just think the Russians are more pragmatic than that. Then again, if it's a submachine gun in use, who knows?
The magazine is "assault" cartridge length, as opposed to a pistol caliber. Looks like a Kalishnakov type safety mechanism, birdcage flash suppressor and a fully protected front sight.
It has sort of an H&K look to it, for some reason.
You'll all notice the man with the gun is pretty relaxed; not only is his finger off the trigger, his hand is off the grip entirely.
It also appears the armed man has a pistol in a rear of hip open holster. Looks like the brown plastic grips of a Makarov. Battle dress uniform (they've been watching too much Americanski teeveeski), and no safety vest.

Hmm, mag looks pretty big doesn't it? Almost looks like a 12 gauge mag for a saiga. Can't tell if it's part of the the mag or not, but it doesn't seem to have the standard AK mag well. Looks like an angled well that sticks down from the receiver a little bit. Maybe it's just something on the top of the mag giving that illusion... Beats me, very interesting.

Ok! After a brief research on the allmighty internt I found the answer myself. It is the Vikhr Whirlwind Short Assault Rifle. It fires a 9mm AP bullet. Too bad that we might not see one of those in the states anytime soon.

Looks like it may be an AK-97 folder:

The pic above has a longer magazine, but the foregrip, flash-hider, and front sight are dead ringers.

Is that the 9x39mm cartridge? Sounds like an interesting setup.

this is SR-3 "Vikhr" (Whirlwind) compact assault rifle in 9x39mm AP subsonic. Sized like AKS-74U or an MP-5, but has many times more stopping power (260gr 9mm slugs at ~1000fps), with impressive AP capabilities (bullet with tungsten carbide core, defeats almost any bulletproof vest at 200+ yds)
very popular among russian SOBR, OMON and other police special forces (SWAT-like)

Yes, that would be a neat concept. I was looking at the ballistic chart of the .357 SIG before. IMHO if Ruger can come up with a top folding stock compact carbine that have a 6" barrel and chamber for the round, that would be a very manuverable carbine capable of hitting man size target at 200 yds. And the size will be about that of an MP5K. Perfect replacement for the M-9 and M-11 pistol in service as of today.

9x39? Sounds like a butt-kicking midrange cartridge to me!! Good deal!
How do they keep the velocity subsonic? Also, is the round based on the 7.62x39, or is it a different case? Tell me more!
By the way, welcome, Max!

the 9x39mm case is a 7.62x39 M43 case necked up. Subsonic is easy, as the 9mm bullet is 2 times heavier than the original 7.62mm bullet. see the image for visual comparision (9x39 shown with SP-6 AP bullet)
