My Garand arrived from CMP the other day, and I'm curious about something - how can I tell its age and maybe a little bit of its history?

The S/N is 2134XXX, from Springfield Armory. It's in pretty good shape, a few dings, but the bore is clean now, and looks used but smooth, and all the mechanical parts are clean, fit well, and the action works smoothly by hand. Once I get some military .30-06 ball, I'm planning on taking it out to the range.

Anyway, back to my question - does anyone know how I can find that information?

Thanks.

November 1943...

With the action locked back you can read the month and date on the barrel indicating when that was made as well.

Looks like Dec. '43 if I read the chart right

Added: You beat me to it, and looks like you're right: Nov.'43
